What is Collagentex infrared therapy?

Collagentex is near-infrared (NIR) photobiomodulation: polychromatic near-infrared light that has been studied since the 1960s for its effects on tissue repair, rejuvenation and pain relief.

The RX-1 uses wide-exposure, scattered low-level light therapy (LLLT). Its light covers an area of about a square foot, so larger areas such as the back, shoulders or legs can be treated at once, without the device touching the skin.

How does it work?

Near-infrared light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the cells of the soft tissue, where it:

  • Widens small blood vessels (vasodilation, through nitric oxide), bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the area
  • Supports lymphatic drainage
  • Stimulates the cell’s mitochondria (cytochrome c oxidase) to produce more energy (ATP) for repair
  • Encourages fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen and elastin
  • Has anti-inflammatory effects at the cellular level
